Restaurant Name: La Pause Gourmande, Le Pain Gourmand
This restaurant is not actually in Nice. It is in La Trinité, right next door. I don't know if you can get there without a car. Believe me, I would never tell anyone to deliberately go to La Trinité. No offense to the people there, because they were very friendly. Of course, it may be a very nice village, but I only saw this very small part.
My friend, who is from Cannes and does not know Nice, got lost taking me to the airport. We started to head towards the Alpes (I think) and it was looking pretty ugly on each side of the highway. We had plenty of time before my flight, but In a panic, I told him to get off at the next exit. We drove through some seriously ugly areas before we reached the main street which was only a couple of blocks long. The main street reminded me of an Italian village. That was nice.
We passed a typical Italian coffee bar and I told my friend that, since he was starving, we should eat at that bar because I had noticed a restaurant upstairs.
So, we parked and made our way there. We had to walk up a circular staircase to get to these two tiny smoked filled rooms, a real hole in the wall. Under ordinary circumstances, I wouldn't be caught dead in a smokey place like that. We squeezed in at the only empty table in this packed room. It was obvious that this was a good restaurant where the locals ate. We were the only ones not puffing away.
The lady next to me told me to order the plat du jour. We both did with a bottle of rose. The dish was paella and it was so delicious that my mouth is watering as I write.
If you get lost in La Trinité and you don't mind the smoke, go there. You will not regret it.
The people are very friendly.
Favorite Dish: Paella. I am not a paella expert, but in my opinon this dish was superb.
