L'ÉGLISE SAINTE–JEANNE d'ARC
I know, I know. This is not one of those beautiful photos taken of the Promenade des Anglaise or the ships sailing from the port. In fact, it is the ugliest architecture I have ever seen and it is in Nice. Sorry, Jacques Droz. It is just my personal, uneducated opinion. It is L'ÉGLISE SAINTE–JEANNE d'ARC at 11 rue Grammont. I stumbled on it by chance.

In that part of town there is also the Marché de la Libération each morning except Monday. It is said to be worth the trip up there. It is located at the top of avenue Malausséna and boulevard Joseph Garnier.

Port de Nice
Aside from the ugliness of this church, Nice is quite a lovely town, in my opinion. The beach is not what I am used to, sandy, because it is solid pebbles and large ones at that. You couldn't possibly lie on your beach towel. But I do like the Bel Epoque style of architecture, although I know it has its critics.

There are many retirees and snow birds here, which is why I call it the Miami of France.

It is also very convenient to Italy and Provence. If you are taking a trip to Aix-en-Provence, aside from a car, the best way to go is by Phoceen Cars at 2, Place Masséna. If you take the train it takes longer and you have to change in Marseille.

I imagine there are some excellent restaurants in Nice, but I was traveling alone and didn't venture very far. I did find a wonderful little restaurant in a village next to Nice. Go to my tips for more information.

Pros:"A pretty city, not far from Italy and Provence"
Cons:"I didn't find any."
In A Nutshell:"A pretty place for retirees and snowbirds, but does not have the feeling of that kind of town."

When using Phoceen Cars along the French Riviera, don't forget to ask for your Senior Discount if you are over 65-years of age. In 2007, busses ran between Menton, France and Gerona, Spain. All personnel were very accomodating.

Nice tips and travelogues on Nice. Too bad about the inartistic graffiti, though.
