Saaremaa is the largest of the many islands that are in Estonia. While the residents are Estonian they are known(so I've been told by locals and mainlanders)now and historically, for being very independant and somewhat different and seperate from other Estonians.

During the soviet times Saaremaa was considered off limits to most non military personel.

Kuressaare is the largest town on the island and the largest tourist attraction.***Please also check out my Kuressaare page. It was easier to seperate them and if you visit Saaremaa then you will probably visit Kuressaare.***
