Watchet is a delightful small harbour town which is nestled between Exmoor National Park and the Quantock Hills and has a maritime history going back over two millenia. The original maritime port has a past which stretches over hundreds of years but was converted into a new marina in 2001. The town has an olde worlde feel about it with quaint little shops and numerous pubs.
For the steam rail enthusiast, the West Somerset Railway runs through the town enroute to either Minehead or Bishops Lydeard.
Watchet is believed to have been the inspiration for Samuel Taylor Coleridge's The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and a statue of the Ancient Mariner is located by the harbour was unveiled in September 2003 as a tribute.
