A recent work trip allows me to check out the newly opened Shanghai Marriott Changfeng Park. Everything is in mint condition (since it only opened in Feb 10). You couldn't really be asking for anything newer.
Location is really nothing to shout about since it offers proximity to my office. Folks looking for a more central location may wish to hunt elsewhere. The obvious disadvantage of location is made up by excellent rooms (my room has windows on 2 sides as it was a corner room) with a fantastic tub that comes with a view of Shanghai and excellent pool and jacuzzi facilities in the hotel. Business class hotel wise, I am not really looking for anything more fanciful.
My conference happened to be held in the hotel's conference room. Unfortunately, the carpet loved attracting static electricity resulting in plenty of excitable jolts and merry squeals. The room's heating/cooling system could not made up its mind, sending the room to either stifling warmness or bone-chilling coolness. We couldn't make up our mind to wear our sweaters or not.
Unique Qualities: I am more taken in by the physical comfort of the Hotel than anything else. In a nutshell, compared to the usual Ho Hum places I stayed while backpacking, I am thanking my stars to be popping my body onto a bed that is soft, clean and welcoming!
Address: 158 Da Du He Road,Putuo District, Shanghai, 200062 China
Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: Shanghai Marriott Hotel Changfeng Park is a 32-story building facing the Changfeng Park and overlooking Su Zhou River. Nearest subway is "Lou Shan Guan Lu" station on the red line 2.

My new corporate Hotel is a little out of the way since it's on the western side of the city, a little far from the actions from the inner core. The nearest train station is "Lou Guan Shan", about a 10 mins walk away. To its credit, it's on the red line 2, meaning you can take it all the way to The Bund.
Littering around the Hotel, if you care to walk pass the near vicinities of swanky restaurants are little alleyways of local living where you can stumble into a number of convenience stores and local eateries/cafes. About 15 minutes walk from the Hotel, you will exit into busy Tian Shan Road with its dragons of shopping malls on both sides of the road.
Reception is professional though checking out took a while. Took me almost 20 minutes before I was served....with the billing counter operating like customs in some airports. If they could only improve here....
Staff is smooth and polite...then again it's expected, no?
I must say I don't mind the breakfast spread in the morning as well.
The room itself is spacious and comfortable, as expected for any hotel in the business league. Nothing to pick at. But for a Hotel of its league, the swimming pool is terribly disappointing. It's like an oversize bath tub. Throw in about 4 adults and you will probably spill water everywhere. There is a gym (boring) but no jacuzzi. How is a man going to relax after a day of hard work? Tsk tsk.
Unique Qualities: Business league; business class comfy.

It was my corporate hotel. Very comfortable. The location is great; not too noisy or crowded but yet not too far from the main attractions. Just a 15-20 minutes is Yu Yuan Lu with its small local eateries, bakeries and cafes. Service is always warm and professional. The breakfast sumptuous and tasty. Haven't had a negative thing to say so far.
Unique Qualities: I like the pool though it was an odd shape and not Olympic size. Good for a few laps. The Health Club (separated into male and female sections) with its generous jacuzzi is great and wonderfully fantastic to help you end the day with a nice hot water massage.
Address: 250 Hua Shan Road, 200040 Shanghai
Comparison: more expensive than average
Directions: The nearest subway station is "Jing An Shi". The hotel is about a 10-15 minutes away.
