There are 2 ways to get to Macau from Hong Kong:
TURBOJET
It costs HK$141 (circa 2005) one way to catch the ferry from Macau Ferry Terminal to the Sheung Wan Ferry Terminal in Hong Kong on Hong Kong Island (and vice versa). The journey takes about 1 hour, and yes, you need that passport.
Don't worry about tickets, they are easily available on the spot. Most standard hotels offer free shuttle buses to the ferry terminal in Macau.
Turbojet also offers service that brings visitors directly from HK Airport to Macau.
FIRST FERRY
Catamarans from the First Ferry offer roundtrip sailings to and from Macau and the Kowloon Peninsula, arriving at the China (HK) Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon).
The journey takes about 60-75 minutes. The ticket price ranges from HK$140 to HK$275.
For details, please call Hong Kong (852) 2516-9581 or Macau (853) 726301.

MTRMap
This is one convenient way to get from the Airport on Lantau Island into Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsula. There are only 4 stops on this express line: Airport, Tsing Yi, Kowloon (Tsim Tsa Tsui) and Hong Kong (Island). The journey takes only 30 minutes from Airport to Hong Kong Island.
The MTR card costs HK$220 for one return journey and for the next 3 days, all rides on the MTR are free. To see more details, please see URL below.

MTRMap
This is a great way to get around Hong Kong - the Octopus Card - which allows you to board the MTR (subway) and the public bus services. It is a store value card (minimum HK$100) and you to pay a deposit of HK$50 (which you can claim back upon returning the card). Makes life so much easier getting around Hong Kong. (For more details, see URL below)
All you need to do is to flash the card above the sensors as you are entering the gates of the MTR station and the sensors will automatically deduct the value upon your exit at your destination station. Ditto for buses.
