..."This was my second leg of my first trip into Oz. I was cutting through new territories, not having travelled so far before. The Gold Coast was a natural choice (a mate and his then sheila, now wife, had landed a few months before and told me not to miss this spot), having nursed a yearning for the beach for several months. I remembered vividly the walk I had on the golden sand on my last evening: waves rushing in onto the shore against a lavender shaded evening sky, a surfer fighting the dying day in the near distance, riding the crests and surviving the troughs, and me surfing my own crests and troughs of thoughts and emotions"...
