IMPREXXION: BELGIUM

by xuessium - last update: May 20, 2006

..."Truth be told, Belgium was never on my list of countries to visit. Nothing against the country but Belgium was never at the tip of people's tongue when they talk big about Europe. The main reason I visited was to catch up with an old friend I made while I was travelling in Australia. "Come and visit me one day", he said. He must have regretted saying that.

For an outsider, it is a strange country. A political quilt of Flemish-Walloon co-existence (dare I whisper, co-tolerance?) sewn by the strings of the Belgian crown. Having travelled to quite a number of towns, I foresee a Francophone tide creeping up the shores as the country slowly turns a shade tricolour. Political observations aside, this is a land of hearty robust folks who will just about pick up a fight to defend their beers and pretty much hold the same attitude when it comes to fries! Never have I seen a nation of people who loves fries so much! For the first time of my life, I sat dumbfounded looking at a big wallop of the starchy stuff; my buddy equally dumbfounded that there are folks out there who just could not finish them"...

I am going to use this page as the mother page and break my pages up into a couple of sub-pages. All other destinations, aside from Brussels and Brugge, will be featured on this mother page.

The 2 sub-pages: IMPREXXION: BRUSSELS & IMPREXXION: BRUGGE.

Pros:"Blessed with cultural, historical and natural richness"
Cons:"Identity is diluted away by its bigger geographical neighbours"
In A Nutshell:"Lovely country actually, if people could just remember it"
