..."There are two parts of Pulau Bintan. The northern shore has been leased by an Indonesian-Singapore conglomerate since 1991 and quickly strewn with a range of resorts, attracting hordes of Singaporeans and foreigners alike, eager to escape from the grasp of city life. Away from the manicured lawns and patrolled gates of the resort grounds, lay the true unpolished Bintan, where folks still live in villages (kampongs), fish and farm for livelihoods, impervious to the passage of time that had since changed the face of the northern shores of their island"...

Beach off Bintan Lagoon Resort

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Definitely better beaches than those in Singapore
  • Cons:You don't really see true Indonesian hospitality in the resorts
  • In a nutshell:An island with a split personality

Enjoyed your tips. Visiting Singapore for 10 days from 15th May, looking for 2 day break midweek, thought Melaka, someone suggested Bintan. Want more than resort, is there anything to see??, Culture, Local People etc?

To find the way to the hawker centre, exit from oleh oleh main gate, turn right, n right again into a small road. Walk straight in n u will be able to find the hawker on ur left after 5 mins slow walk.
