"My Romania" mujgabi's Profile
I'm not going to tell too much, I'm not good at writing, but I think the pictures can tell better than me about this wonderful country.
There are too many things to see and find out about Romania. I would write a book in 10 volumes, and I would still not be done. If you are interested in visiting it, just ask me and I will try to help you find the right places to see.
The Maramures area is one of the most beautiful and worth visiting from the nature point of view, as well as traditions and customs of the locals.
Northern part of moldova is the place of the historical monasteries. People are the most wellcoming in Romania and despite the poverty of the region, Moldova is the most poor in Romania, I just love it.
Maramures is famous for its wooden culture. The typical homestead in Maramures is entirely built in wood. From the walls to the water cups. The house welcomes you with a huge gate artistically carved in wood patterns talking about the pride of its owner. The bigger the gate the wealthier the owner. In the evenings, people gather outside the gate and chat about the latest events in their small community.
The Merry Cemetery of Sapanta has been, for more than fifty years, the creation of sculptor Stan Patras, the successor of several generations of wood artists that bequeathed their trade from father to son. In 1934, Patras began to scribble an epitaph on the crosses. Usually it is a short poem written in the first person, dotted with archaisms, vernacular phrases and...spelling errors. The entire life of the village is featured in this cemetery. The shepherd, the farmer, the wood ranger, the wood cutter, or the pupil stand side by eternally, with the weaver, the spinner, the housewife, the merchant, the carpenter, the doctor, the musician or the drunk. This collective memory of Sapanta, this ensemble of colourful graves where each dead person recounts humbly his/her existence with its joys and sorrows, creates a serene and merry atmosphere, a sort of challenge to death, a hymn to life.
... more landscape .... Romania has 1/3 mountains, 1/3 hills, 1/3 fields, it has the Danube Delta ..... anything one would wish!
... and loads of historical traces, spread all over.
