"Stop the Development" Penang by kishore7

I've been coming to Penang every year for as long as i can remember but sadly each year the island seems to slowly lose its charm and appeal. For as long as i can remember foreigners mainly Caucasians used to flock over to Penang for its laid back lifestyle, food, beautiful beaches, sentimental reasons (former British colony)..etc...but unfortunately constant development has turned the island into another "city" with numerous high rise buildings and traffic. The variety of food is still good and the beaches in some areas are still worth the visit but pollution and lack of care by the local municipal council has allowed the water to turn murky and unattractive. Since the tsunami hit, tourism has dropped tremendously too which is sad because Penang still a lot to offer. The night markets are the best compared to any in KL and the Buddist Temple and Hindu Waterfall Temple are still worth a visit. The snake temple is definately a rip off but the drive around town and stil amazing because a lot of the buildings, shops and old houses still maintain the architecture and design of its past colonial rulers. Two bars/clubs worth checking out is "Chillout" and "Slippery Senorita".
