Fort Lauderdale and Broward County The Broward county to the North of Miami is the typical suburbia, although with the Miami theme so to speak. The coast is reserved mostly for the unremarkable hotels catering to families, and the interior is filled with single family homes with attached garages. There is little reason to venture here if you are visiting Miami. |
Fort Lauderdale does have its own downtown, which is clean and unremarkable. It does have one of those waterfront developments with chain restaurants and stores selling gifts made in China. Hollywood is the nicest area with incredible homes along the shore, many of which used to be owned by drug smugglers during the 80's, and a very pretty Hollywood boulevard lined with incredibly tall palm trees - it runs from US-1 to I-95, and then further west. The boulevard has several circular plazas, but there potential is wasted - they have featureless strip malls and in the center they have nothing special either - either a forlorn little park or a construction zone. |
