Segovia is a small town near Madrid. However, it is the heart and soul of Spain, and a visit to this country without a stop in Segovia makes as much sense as a visit to India without a stop in Agra. |
| | The town indeed is small, but it is very pretty and packed with things to see. And despite the large number of tourists it remains a living and working town. |
| | The main attraction is of course the Alcazar, the royal castle, a massive aqueduct built by Roman emperor Trajan (or rather his slaves) and a large number of mansions covered in "esgrafiado" decorations. The city boasts many fine Romanesque churches. The cathedral is impressive, although not as much as in Toledo. |
