Alamogordo is a small town in Southern New Mexico that I grew up in. About 45 minutes east from Las Cruces and 1 1/2 hours north of El Paso, Texas, it's away from all the hustle of big city life, but close enough to get some serious partying and shopping done. Alamogordo itself doesn't have a lot to see or do, but the little zoo is good for a lazy day (especially of you have kids) and there is plenty of fun to be had at the Rec Center... including a fab pool that has a dome for the cold months (all three of them!).
In high school I actually spent most of my time at Holloman AFB, which is 5 minutes from the city limits, and attending raves. Small town it may be, there can be some ferocious raves that pop up, if you know where to look.
About 1 hour north of Alamo is Ruidoso in the mountain area... so if you are up for some snowboarding, Ski Apache is a good place to go. There are also a few casinos in the area if you don't feel like going all the way to Vegas!
I have done way to much in this town to mention it all, and a lot of it can't be replicated by some one else anyway. But, it's a cozy little town that I like to call home. |

| Pros: | "Great warm weather, easy traffic for those of us with road rage, and the White Sands Monument is worth the trip (especially for photography nuts)." | | Cons: | "Not a lot to do in town, east coasters find it's too hot in summer." | | In A Nutshell: | "Small, Comfortable, but not too many tumbleweeds rolling through." |
