What other tipmakers forget to mention, Rumeli Hisari is the best place for ship spotting in Istanbul as this is the narrowest part of the straits. If you're really into ships you can spend hours sitting on top of a bastion watching the various vessels glide past. If you're a penniless student, you might as well persuade the ticket seller that your international student card entitles you to free entry! Just show him the UNESCO tag on it!
