Dana Point Harbor
Dana Point Harbor is a harbor for recreational boats. It is located on the coast of California in South Orange County. It has several good restaurants & shops to browse through. You can rent or charter a fishing boat ,catch a boat to Catalina Island, take a harbor cruise or go whale watching in season. There is a park with a sheltered beach, called Mothers Beach, and a Marine Institute.

A replica of the historical Yankee trading ship, 'The Pilgrim' is docked on the pier .Richard H Dana (the towns namesake),was a seaman on 'The Pilgrim'. He also went on to write the First book on California written in English. The Book is called 'Two Years Before the Mast' and in it he explains the hide trading business between Boston and California. He traveled up and down the California Coastline and said Capistrano Bay was "the most romantic spot on the California coast." Capistrano Bay is today known as Dana Point.

I lived in Dana Point for 8 years before moving to San Clemente. In the distant background of this picture of the harbor is the mountain in S.C where we built our present home. We still enjoy visiting the harbor which is about a 10 minute drive up the coast from San Clemente.

Looks like a wonderful spot to vacation - great restaurants and what fun to rent a surrey and good exercise too.

Is this the Capistrano where the swallows used to return to? (Sorry, you must get asked that all the time.) Looks very luxurious, in any case. Nice tips and photos.
