Phillip Island is about a 2 hour drive from Melbourne, unless you leave at peak hour and then it seems to take forever!
George Bass discovered Phillip Island in 1798. It was originally named Snapper Island, then Grant Island and finally named after Captain Arthur Phillip, the 1st governor.
Phillip Island is probably best known for the nightly "Penguin Parade". International motorcycle and car racing events also happen here regularly.

I would like to make such a trip too... Great experience! ><><<><
We experienced the other extreme end of temperature on Phillip Island. Brgghhh....
Come on, where's all the petrol heads? (I'm coming down in December). No fishing tips? Penguins are free at Bicheno! Apart from the above, wonderful pages.
We loved the penguin parade, my husband had several great shots of them, if only I had a scanner....
The penguins look so cute. Great page!!
AMAZING a penquin parade, how CUTE !!! I have to take a day trip in May to Phillip Island , for sure. Thanks for sharing : )
That looks like an interesting place. Thanks for telling us about it.
I hope they share the profits from the tickets with the penguins! Would love to see the parade.
Looks like a fun place to go when it is not pouring rain... maybe next time!
Great picture of the penguins and good tips!
