Ubud is a fascinating place. There is so much to see and do in and around the town. A day trip can't really do it justice, but it's better than nothing. The first time we were in Bali we only visited Ubud for a day. Of course we went to the market and the Monkey Forest, not much time for anything else. Last year we stayed in Ubud for 5 days. Far more relaxing than Kuta. It's also possible to go to Lovina on a day trip from here.
2007:
Once again we spent time in Ubud. It's a lovely town, no pushy sellers. Well, until you get to the market that is!! But it's all part of the fun.
If you're in Ubud don't miss seeing a performance of the Kechak dance followed by the fire trance.
Ubud is considered to be the artists area of Bali.
This guy was engrossed in his work. He was working in the foyer of our hotel.

I noticed that Dewa Nyoman has a website now selling all of his gamelan gongs and stuff. It's at www.GardenOfAsianArts.com. They also have made the showroom smaller to make room for his wife's new clothing shop. And she just had a baby.
A very nice page on a wonderful town.I juts felt the kechak Dance was a rip off-perhaps we were forced into going for it!

What a nice hotel u stayed at! Gr8 pics u have here. The spa is especially gorgeous! Would probably stay there if I go to Bali again.
Love UBUD and will return next year for artwork. Shopping in UBUD is awsome.
