San Pedro de Atacama is a small village located in the altiplane of the north of Chile, in the second region. This village is a natural attraction for thousands of tourists of the whole world due to the archaeology, the rustic style and the great quantity of things to do and discover here. The village has 2500 inhabitants approximately and the principal economic activity of the settlement is the tourism followed of the minor agriculture. Due to the great quantity of tourists in the village it has the most varied services for the visitor as housing, restaurants, agencies of tourism, crafts, centers of called, Internet, relay and police. I have been here at least 5 times, but there is always something new to see and it never gets me bored. |
|  | History It thinks that approximately 11.000 years ago behind the first peoples settled themselves in the north end of Chile, choosing the zone of the puna and the gullies of Atacama's desert. The Atacameños were the original people of the "Culture San Pedro ", being established in the pit of the river and in all the oases of Atacama's desert. The art of the Atacameños was showed in ceramics, fabrics, basket-making, carved in wood and in the metallurgy, specially of copper and bronze. They believed in the life after of the death for what they were burying with their own properties. The atacameños managed to be the pre-Columbian village most developed of Chile. At the arrival of the Spanish they appeared as a pacific people before the step of Diego de Alamgro and Pedro de Valdivia expeditions. |

In San Pedro there are many things to do, from tours to Valley of the moon, valley of the death, Geyser del Tatio, Toconao, salar of Atacama, thermal baths of Puritama, Pukara de Quitor, lagoons , ruins of tulor, pozo 3, visit to the museum, visit to the Church, the shops of Crafts, horse rides, visit in bicycle, and sports as the climbing and the sandboard, really you are not gonna get bored here!! |
