FOZ DO IGUASSU

by patricia28 - last update: Mar 12, 2005

The most beautiful show

Iguassu Falls view
I can't find the perfect words to say it, but it was fantastic, the most beautiful natural thing that I have ever seen before.
I arrived to Foz do Iguassu City in the Paraná state of Brasil with some friends, and the people of the hotel were waiting for us in the airport, the they took us to our nice hotel, very confortable and big, called "Carima" .

ITAIPU:
Our first day there we went to "Itaipu " the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world, it was a very interesting tour, we could visit the plant and it was huge! , this is responsible for the generation of 25% of the electric energy consumed by Brasil and more than 90% of that of Paraguay.
After our visit to Itaipu we went to visit a monument in the limit of Praguay, Brasil and Argentina, where the river is mixed.

The next day we visited the National park by the Brazilian side, we were all choked when we saw the most beautiful show ever, the falls are amazing, full of energy. The park is wonderful, there are so much to do and to see, the first part we had to walk by the park , watching the falls and the wild animals, it was a nice time, after that we arrived to the big view of the falls where you get a little wet , but that's good because of the weather, it was sooooooo hot...
then we went to a very good restaurant in the park, called "Puerto Canoas" with many different things to eat.
Finally we went to the most exciting part of the day "Macuco safari" a whole adventure in the park, we took a kind of train that carried us into the jungle, then we walked a little to arrived to a beautiful place called "Macuco fall" , finally we walked to the river where you can find a platform with a lot of people waiting for the aquatic adventure, this is fantastic, a fast boat carried us across the river , and then just down the water of a small fall of water, we got really wet!!! so try to let all your things in the platform if you can.
When we were going back , a friend and I get down into another platform to make raffting, it was awsome!! the rapids are not dangerous but the landscape is unforgettable.

The third day was a shopping day, in the morning we went to "Ciudad del este" Paraguay, this city is not really nice is actually like a chinatown, full of people running and talking, very dirty but you can find all kind of things and very cheap. But you have to be careful with the electronic devices because they don't give you guarantee so you have to be sure that the device is working correctly, anyway it is a risk.
During the afternoon we went to downtown of Foz city, it is very quiet and with a lot of stores, you can find clothes and shoes.

The night of the next day we attend to a dance show called "OBA OBA", with all the brazilian music and fantastic suits, you have to be prapare to be selected by the team to participate in the show :)

National park of iguassu, Argentina

The park by this side is very different than the brazilian side, but it is also beautiful, the big diference is that you walk a lot (maybe you will need a day to visit it) across the jungle and watching the most beautiful stages of nature.
we first took a train to "Garganta del diablo" station, the trip is very nice and you go listening the music of the movie "the mission" that were filmed in this place. When you get down the train you have to walk a lot to arrived to the most amazing water fall "Garganta del diablo", many people became emotional when they saw it, becuase it is impressive.
Then you have to organize your time to be able to walk the upper circuit, the lower circuit which includes the "San martin Island" and a nautical adventure that you can't miss.
Be sure to take a big bottle of water with you.

Other nice visit is the one to the Bird Park, there are many diferents kind of birds and is very interesting, you can also see the butterflies and some snakes. After this experience I went to take an helicopter to fly over the Iguassu Falls, I don't have more words to explain how wonderful it is.

During this afternoon we went to sail in the river, it was a very relaxing experience, we also had some drinks and some dance lessons.

What a great place for a helicopter ride! I've been in lots of helicopters, but never over a huge waterfall like that. And then the "Macuco safari" and the rafting and a swim, and a trip to the missions. Fantastic! Beautiful photos in your travelogues.
