Albufeira is probably the Southwesternmost resort on mainland Europe. Mild a lot of the time between Winter and Spring when the rest of Iberia chills, it is a definite banker for beach weather in the Summer. Take to the water, though, and you are dealt a chilly reminder that you are in the Atlantic ocean now and not the Med !! The old town although still full of tourists and tourist haunts retains its Portugese identity while the strip could be interchangeable with anywhere in Tenerife or Menorca or any one of a myriad overbuilt and overpriced purpose-expanded resorts. The Algarve shopping centre shows a selection of the latest films in its cinema ; subtitled and in their original English language, complete with anachronistic intermission to fetch some ice cream |
