This is the monument of St George at the foot of the great hill uo to the Mother of the Nations monument. It is at the very end of Rustavelli Avenue, in front of the Town Hall, surrounded by about 8 lanes of contraflow traffic, it seemed!
Rusrtaveli and elsewhere through the centre are liberally sprinkled with statues, like this one to the national poet Shota Rustaveli, looking down Rusatavelis gamziri
No excuse for being an atheist in Tbilisi with a church to suit every taste!
The Georgian ones, like this near where Akvledani ends at Kostavas Kucha, are humbler - in brick - than their elaborately domed Russian orthodox neighbours, but do nowadays get the floodlighting at night that the Russian ones don't seem to!
- Pros:Dirt cheap to eat and drink well, interesting historical city
- Cons:Traffic, missing pavements, centre a lot like abuilding site
- In a nutshell:A warm welcome & different experience awaits the visitor

Stayed in a single room 6 nights in mid-October 2007. Clean and adequate rooms, staff all very helpful and spoke English... more travel advice
