I started skydiving in September 2003 after my best friend was killed suddenly at the age of 31. We had always talked about doing it and for some reason never found the time. Al was the most amazing friend I've ever had, and I will miss him forever. For the rest of my days I'm committed to seeing and doing all of the things that he/we would have done, and am trying desperately to get out of my workaholism and into living all of the dreams I've put off for so long.
Skydiving is the MOST spiritual experience I've ever had in my life. To do it you must muster up all of the courage and belief you have in yourself, multiply that by a hundred, not think about all the things there are to be afraid of and just do it. The door opens and you are thousands of feet above the earth... and you simply spread your arms and start flying like a bird. Once you open your chute you have minutes of just peace... utter peace and quiet. It was from thousands of feet in the air that I felt closest to my friend, and began changing my priorites and the way I saw the world around me. I found a faith in myself that I never had before and it is priceless. |
Returning from Italy I just returned from Italy and am finally back on a normal schedule. What a trip! I always knew if I went to Europe I would never want to come back, and I found that to be very true for me. If at all possible I will retire in Italy. I have so many thoughts on the differences between Americans and Europeans. The first thing I noticed is that they don't destroy themselves or their history. As a woman that has lived in Los Angeles for too long, I was amazed at how comfortable I felt in my own skin there... how there were no apparent plastic surgery people, gyms on every corner, large vehicles that symbolize status and wealth. The Italians seem to love life and it's pleasures, beauty and passion. I was so touched by the Italian's openness and honesty and found it to be so refreshing. |
35th Birthday I just turned 35 and am loving it! For my birthday some dear friends and I went bowling, played air hockey and video games for hours! It was a fun time for all and a very nice break from running my company, which keeps me very busy. |
