Seven Days in Manhattan

by goodfish - last update: Mar 27, 2009

New York City from the Empire State Building
"To Europe, she was America. To America, she was the gateway of the earth. but to tell the story of New York would be to write a social history of the world." H.G Wells

That pretty much sums it up so I'll dispense with the history lesson. We spent a week in Manhattan - a few days of business and a few more of pleasure - for what many of you will think was anything but a New York City experience. No nlghtclubbing, no dress clothes or shopping for fashion, not a single fancy restaurant and (gasp) no Broadway shows. Nope. Not one. We went to walk off some serious cabin fever at the end of another long, dark Minnesota winter, and walk we did - uptown, downtown, through parks and museums, across bridges and around neighborhoods. We saw amazing art and architecture, important pieces of history and beautiful churches, cruised delis and markets - drawn by the aromas of freshly baked breads and exotic sauces, ate pizza in Brooklyn, drank beer in the Village, took our coffee and the morning paper for a read in the park, rode the ferry, met nice people and dispelled some myths. Most of all, we had a lot of fun.

There's no better seat in the house than on the sidewalks of New York!

Pros:"Tons to do and see"
Cons:"Much, but thankfully not all, of that is expensive"
In A Nutshell:"Prettier, friendlier and more fascinating than I had imagined!"
