We spent a week in London in Aug. of 2002. As demands at the office had us both short of time, we booked a package through a travel company mainly to handle our airfare, hotel, taxes and transfers to and from Gatwick. This is also a great way for first-timers to go if a little apprehensive about making your own arrangements.
The company offered daily sightseeing tours (for a price) but we choose instead to strike out on our own so we could spend as much time as we wanted to at places we (vs the tour company) found interesting. This was a good decision as the one exception we made had us leaving the tour very early on so as not to be rushed.
The very best way to really experience the essence of this city is on foot (and by Tube) so scratch the bus tours, if you are physically able, and bring a daypack, umbrella and your most comfortable walking shoes.
This trip was before we had a digital camera so no pix - sorry! |

scaevolatn Sun Jun 18, 2006 20:30 UTC Thanks for the tip about a trash bag in your daypack. I had forgotten how much trouble I had finding a trash can on my last visit to London. |
