Restaurant Name: Barrafina
"by Barcelona's brilliant Tapas Bar, Cal Pep, Barrafina was created in the beginning of 2007 by brothers and hispanophiles Sam and Eddie Hart, owners of critically acclaimed Fino Restaurant on nearby Charlotte St" ...
Recently visited Barrafina in Frith St (Feb 08), so I guess it's as good a place as any to start writing my long overdue London restaurant tips . Although I must confess, I was somewhat distracted by my rather handsome date to be totally up to critical scratch ; )
Barrafina aims to provide quality tapas with the best ingredients. The little bar is styled in tradtional tapas bar and stools are set around an open kitchen. Having said that, the cleanliness and modern decor seemed to me to be rather more in line with a contemporary New York style.
Our waitress was from Granada and was friendly, efficient and charming and the food fresh, colourful and tasty. They also had a nice fresh and fruity white wine from nothwest Spain (name temporarily evading me) recommended by the Handsome Man that I hadn't heard of, but thoroughly enjoyed. The restaurant looks spotless and there are some interesting photographs of traditional Spain and its people on the wall.
Barrafina does not take bookings, so you may well have to queue, but our wait wasn't too long on a Saturday night. Amusingly, our waitress told me the 'Handsome Man' was charming to bring to this good restaurant 'where the famous people ate', so if you are inclined towards celebrity spotting, apparently, this is the place to see and be seen.
Highly recommended.
Favorite Dish: Barrafina has a daily changing ,seasonal selection of specials, the majority of which are seafood dishes. I can eprsonally recommend the prawns.
Some other dishes have included :
Crisp Fried Fresh Anchovies (usually hard to find)
Langoustines with Basil and Tomato
Caper and chopped Egg salad
Baby Red Mullet
Cuttlfish wrapped in Pancetta with an Ink Sauce
I need to stop, I'm getting hungry!
