A couple of days in Benalmadena Pueblo Spent a couple of days in the attractive Benalmadena Pueblo (Nic-named 'Benalbanana' by the Small Person) on route to Estepona. This is off the coast, about a mile up in the hills (well signposted) and a rather pituresque, white washed little town.
It is also very close to Tivoli World, an open air amusement park, which kept the Small Person amused. (See 'Must Do' activities).
Stayed at the Hotel La Fonda, which is a simple but lovely traditional little 2 star with great decor and views (see Hotel Tips). The hotel also has a rather splendid restaurant (see restaurant tips).
Can't say we were that impressed with the coastal area, or the port (very modern, very touristy and full of corporate stores, restaurantsand people trying to sell you things) but the pueblo is well worth a visit, if only for a stroll around or to have lunch at La Fonda restaurant.
Returned to the lovely Hotel La Fonda Aug 06 on the offchance, we were visiting Tivoliworld again with two Small People. A great time was had by all.
People around here speak mostly 'Spanglish' (a English/Spanish mix!) |
The village square. Sit and read or just chill out in the shade of lemon and orange trees in this small but rather charming village square which is surrounded by narrow streets, little bars & restaurants and small independent shops.
Some of the bars are run by British ex-pats, but I have come to Spain, to get away from the UK for a while, so we tended to frequent the Spanish bars and restaurants, which are usually more traditional in style, feature that days tapas (usually on show) to choose from and are often, it seems to be, easier on the wallet ; )
oNE exception to this is the reStaurant run by an Englishman on the corner of the square (will look up further details and add to restaurant section soon). The food there was inventive, tasty & reasonably priced.
We met people from all over the world and most were very friendly.
