This hotel is owned by Varig airlines. It is dark and foreboding and it's decor is very much outdated.
However, the staff, other than those at the front desk are more than accommodating.
There are many ammenities including a gym with regular exercise classes, a large pool with restaurant/bar, a small spa/salon, a business center with access to the Internet, a gift shop and a restaurant that serves three meals a day.
The restaurant is actually beautiful, it's round in shape and has this huge colorful mural encircling its walls by a local artist.
The complimentary breakfast each morning features a row of hot dishes, an assortment of breads and pastries, cheeses and meats, fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese & cereal options and juice/hot chocolate/coffee/tea.
The room.... hmmm, overlooked the pool and a park. It was spacious, the AC was FREEZING (which wasn't necessarily a bad thing as it was really hot in Salvador), had a lot of storage space & had a mini bar. But like I said, this place could use a decor revamp.
Location left much to be desired. While it is close to the beach and to Pelourhino the area does not feel optimal for setting out on foot all about town. It is next to a really beautiful yet small park but I didn't go to Salvador to go to a small park.
I would recommend this hotel only if you were in Salvador on business.
Unique Qualities: Outstanding characteristics... like I said, their helpful staff (other than those at the front desk which seemed miserable and weren't so friendly).
Tim had an hour long massage for like $30 (dollars) and said it was great.
I utilized the business center Internet services for a minimal fee and enjoyed the suggestions its staff offered me where dinner and visiting Praia do Forte were concerned.
