Kuching being the capital City has a population of 800 thousands people, and Sarawak itself has 2.31 million people. When you tour around Kuching City there are various nice places for local food , people over here are friendly and languages like English is no problem to the locals here . You can find Chinese in majority living In Kuching City itself and it is a multi racial community, have various indigineous groups of people. There are historical buildings and the Brooke Legacy in Kuching like the Astana built in 1870 was built by Charles Brooke for his wife as a bridal gift. Fort Margherita named after Charles' wife Ranee Margaret, built in 1879, Square Tower also in 1879, Court House in 1871, Clock Tower/ Charles Brooke Memorial in 1883/1924. Round tower originally planned as a fort but never got completed in 1886. The Sarawak Steamship Building in 1930 was previously the offices and warehouse of the Company. Post Office built in 1931 still in used until today with its Corinthian pillars.
The Sarawak Museum has one of the best collections in South East Asia built in 1891.
Besides all these, there are also places to view like the Civic Centre in which you can go up to the building and from there to see the whole Kuching City. Kuching is a clean City to many tourists who came over and commented and a unique City with friendly people
Main Bazaar, opposite the Waterfront, is the oldest street in the city and the heart of old Kuching. It has some superb examples of Chinese shop house architecture, many of which have been occupied by the same family for generations. These families still pursue traditional occupations such as tin-smiting, carpentry and petty trading. Kuching's highest concentration of antique and handicraft shops are to be found here, and shoppers can rest between bargaining sessions in a number of old-fashioned coffee shops with paneled walls and marble-topped tables.
The Sarawak River or Sungai Sarawak is a river in Sarawak state of Malaysia. It is an important source of water and transportation for the inhabitants of Sarawak. It is also used in water-related sport activities such as the annual Sarawak Regatta and kayakingwhich attract tourists all over the world and is becoming very well known to many. The River is 60 miles long and the river covers the area of 2375 Km and the length is 120 km.
One of the main thing tourists like is to Cruise round the Sarawak River for sightseeing , where you can view all the colonial buildings, that include the Square Tower building, The Astana as well as the Fort Margherita
In this river there are many stories behind it, and you also notice small sampans in which we call river taxi to bring those who are living across the river to the Malay Kampong. Some tourists also like to try the river taxi and to go round for viewing the scenery. Try it if you do come over to visit Kuching
- Pros:It is a clean City with a clean atmosphere and friendly people
