What a lovely bunch of coconuts! | Overlooking the Menehuene Pond |
I got to thinking (that is dangerous in and of itself) that the different islands in the Hawai'ian chain all have a different feel and "personality". So which island would I recommend people to come and visit? All of them but for different reasons. Let me start with Kauai'i.
Kaua'i is a very calm and peaceful place, no wiki wiki (hurry) here which is reflected by the speed limits around the island. It is a great lace to hang out at the beach, go snorkeling, take a cruise up the Waialua River to the Fern Grotto, check out the wet-dry caves on the Northern side of the island, visit the Salt pads, hike the Waiamea Canyon, see Spouting Horn, drive through the tunnel of trees. If you crave the nightlife here, well you might just have to make merry on your own because most places on the island roll up the sidewalks about 8pm.
Kaua'i is so beautiful you will be captivated by her beauty and it will hold on to you for a very long time. |

| | Da' Kine Each island in the Hawai'ian chain is different than the next. Though I love them all, Kaua'i has to be my all time favorite.
Kaua'i is the "Garden Isle" the oldest island in the chain, but I like to refer to her as the "Paradise Isle". From the Waimea gorge known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific to the Wailua river, the only naviagable river in Hawaii. Circumfrentially, Kaua'i is 137 miles around, it still remains to be the least developed of the major islands (Hawai'i, Oahu, Maui and Lana'i) despite being one of the oldest in the Hawaiian Island chain.
It took me 15 years to return to this beautiful place and it was just as stunning then as it is now.
Look out for all the chickens running wild and free--after Hurricane Iniki blew through it demolished some chicken coops so everywhere you go you will seen roosters, hens and chicks in some of the most unlikely places. The chickens have become a "thing" on Kaua'i so much so that the local stores offer T-shirts with a photo of the chickens and proclaim it to be the "unofficial bird of Kaua'i" |
Would you like to swing on a star? Helicopters are the very best way to see the island of Kaua'i. Floating effortlessly through the air, bouyant like a cloud. I have been on helicopters twice over maui, once in Sedona and the best one yet was here on Kaua'i. There are many helicopter companies to choose from and prices that will suit most budgets. | | |
