My visits

We went on holiday several times in Spain. The first two times were as teenager, of course to Llorett de Mar (1996, 1999). On the second time trip we visited L'Estartit and Barcelona as well. After that we have been to the Canary Islands in the winter time January/February. To Lanzarote (2002, 2007), La Palma (2005) and Tenerife (2010). In 2010 we also made a family weekend trip to Valencia a fantastic city.
In 2013 we visited Madrid for the football match Atletico Mardrid-Betis Sevilla 5-0.
For 2016 we have already 2 visits on the agenda, first another football match in Madrid this time Real vs Deportivo La Coruña. And in February we go for a holiday to Lanzarote again.

Spain map

Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a country on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe, 46661950 (2009) inhabitants and an area of 505,992 km ². The country covers roughly 80% of the Iberian Peninsula. Beyond that also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean and the Spanish exclaves in North Africa in the country.

In the northeast it borders France and Andorra to Spain, along the entire length of the Pyrenees in the west and Portugal in the south to the British colony of Gibraltar. The capital of Spain is Madrid, a city with more than 3 million inhabitants located in the middle of the country.

Spain is a diverse country with very different cultures, languages, eating habits and climates. The country varies from rainy fishing villages in Galicia to the nightlife of Madrid, the tourist coasts of the Mediterranean, Andalusian flamenco dancing (Valencia) and bullfighting in many parts of the country and modern Barcelona in Catalonia.

Like the Netherlands and Belgium, Spain is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Spain joined NATO in 1982 and is a member of the European Union since 1986. The euro was the Spanish currency on 1 January 2002, replacing the peseta.

Besides Spanish (Castilian) are Catalan, Basque and Galician-called "co-official" languages of the country.
