Puerto de Santiago

Puerto de Santiago is a tourist town in the municipality of Santiago del Teide, Tenerife with 5386 inhabitants (2009).

The town has a small shopping center. Puerto de Santiago is built against a cliff along the famous town of Los Gigantes. Los Gigantes is a town on the west coast of the Canary Island of Tenerife. The place belongs to the municipality of Santiago del Teide and has 2721 inhabitants (2009).

Los Gigantes is especially known for the impressive giant rock formations (Acantilados the Los Gigantes) rising above the sea, which lie north of Los Gigantes, the place has its name because of these giants (Los Gigantes = the Giants). In some places these rocks rise up to 800 meters above sea level. The place itself has a large rectangular sealed marina, surrounded by a concrete wall, due to rough seas and waves that are located here.

Between the harbor and the rocks is a small lava beach. The harbor is a road with a boulevard with numerous restaurants. Near the harbor is a free swimming pool, which overlooks the sea and the cliffs of Los Gigantes.

Los Gigantes is a tourist attraction of the island and that is evident in the numerous shops and the crowds, especially around the harbor. The resort itself has many hotels and apartment complexes, which today is still being built with expansion against the rocks of this place.
