A photographers dream

Beoootiful. DeadVlei Namibia
I've been wanting to go to Namibia for some time. Its a photographers paradise and I couldn't wait to get my camera on those sand dunes. Boy was it worth it.

Namibia is a huge country, quite desolate and not very populous. It has only been independent since 1990 when before that it came under the successive influence of Germany as a colony and South Africa as a protectorate. As a result it is a weird combination of African and European that is probably unique on the continent.

I have to say I really fell in love with it and am pretty sure I will be going back.

Where to go

Most likely you will start a trip from the capital Windhoek. The airport is very small and about 40k from the city. You literally stroll off the plane and across some tarmac to the terminal.

Windhoek is quite small for a capital city and I must admit I did not spend a lot of time there.

A lot of the roads in the country are not tarmac so its best to travel in a 4 wheel drive.

From Windhoek I travelled to The namib-nankluft national park to see the dunes at Sossusvlei, then I went up the coast to Walvis Bay and Swakopmund ( a strange German style town by the sea).

I also saw where Brangelina (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for the uninitiated)stayed to have their baby -woo hoo. It didn't look like much but it sure as hell was far from civilisation bar the local population.

Then I went on to Etosha National park for some game drives around the salt pan, I didn't think I would enjoy this all that much. Lots of getting up early, but it was great. A wildlife documentary on your doorstep!

From Etosha I travelled to the Waterberg plateau and then back to Windhoek.

All in all I had a brilliant time and I hope you click on the things to do tips for more piccies and info.
