Llama Farmer Pyjama Drama!!

by mad4travel - last update: Nov 7, 2006

This was going to be a trip to Peru & Bolivia but-

A Llama looking for a farmer....
Two days before I was due to leave the Bolivians had a peasants revolt. They blockaded the country, closed the border, rioted in La Paz and made their president resign. Shame it does'nt work like that with getting rid of Tony Blair!!

So, lots of last minute re routing and it turned out to be a 3 week trip just to Peru instead.

I started in Lima, drove down the desert coast, flew over the Nazca lines (pass the sickbag) , not to be recommended if you don't like flying in small planes.

Next there was an earthquake - interesting and then onto Arequipa and more demonstrations. I headed for Puno and Lake Titcaca to be told Puno was having a gerneral strike and I needed to leave the privince or else I may get stuck there so it was a rush to get out to go to Cusco.

In Cusco I was lucky enough to see some of the winter soltice festival altho I could'nt stay for the actual day itself but the bonus was I had Macchu Picchu almost to myself for a day as everyone was in Cusco.

From there, it was off to the Jungle, not a favourite. check out the tips for more details.....

Ah the joys of Latin America!!

Check out separate pages for Cuzco and Macchu Picchu for more indepth info. The rest of Peru is on these Peru Pages

How could they????

They eat guinea pigs!

How could you eat a cutie like this??

Guinea Pig may be on every menu in Peru but when you have them as pets(this is Stinky by the way) there is no way you'd want one for dinner.

Would you want to eat Cat or Dog?
Its a turtle jam

Grumble in the Jungle

Although I really enjoyed Peru I could'nt get to grips with the Jungle.

Maybe wildlife isn't really my thing but I found it pointless tramping thru the jungle when it was sooo hot and humid only to have most of the animals run away because they could hear you coming.

So you end up seeing spiders, stick insects and ants , which, quite frankly don't float my boat so to speak.

Still, the lodge I stayed in was very nice, with good food and a bar and the night sky was spectacular, best I've ever seen

Pros:"Amazing scenery , interesting history"
Cons:"The locals do like a good demonstration"
In A Nutshell:"Great country with loads of latin temperament"

Great photos! oh. maybe yu can have your assault rifle fixed while getting a massage. tramping around the jungle can be both wearying and dirty.
