Four seasons in one day

Welcome to Iceland

Magnificent scenery
Considering that its only 2 hours flying time from London and the nearest major airport to Reykjavik is actually Glasgow its surprising how few Brits ever make it there.

Maybe its the changable weather -like home but more so. Maybe its the vast wilderness making it difficult to get around. Don't be a wuss. Check it out . It's great!
Thar she blows....

What to see and do

Most people head for the capital Reykjavik. Its a pretty city with brightly coloured roofs. There is a nice harbour, a architecturally stunning cathedral plus good shopping and nightlife.

Pretty much everyone speaks English and considering it literally straddles Europe and America (it is home to the mid atlantic ridge after all) it is an interesting fusion with a generous dollop of Iceland thrown in.

Its a wealthy economy and the population is small. Most people live in the capital and are outnumbered during the summer by tourists.

IT is quite expensive though and hold your breath when you get the bar bill!
The Blue Lagoon

Wild and Wooly

If you like geology you'll love Iceland. Wild and wooly , you will find volcanoes, thermal vents, black sand beaches, geysirs, iceberg lagoom, in and deserts and spectacular scenery

There is great bird watching and lots of wild flowers including an unexpected proliferation of lupins everywhere.

You can visit folk villages to see how they used to live, learn about the Icelandic sagas (rape , pillage and revenge from what I could make out).

And when you have finished all that soak your bones in the blue lagoon a spa in a unique setting powered by geothermal energy

See the tips section for more detail

As for the weather, dress in layers, expect everything and you will be prepared.

Sorry if the photos are a bit fuzzy, they were taken on an SLR camera and I've had to scan them in so resolution may not be great.

Pros:"Wild open spaces, great geology"
