Scenery thats hard to beat I've been a lot of places in my time but the scenery in Utah and the Four Corners region of the US is hard to beat.
There are a lot of national and state parks.
My favourites are Monument Valley, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park. Moab is a fantastic place to base yourself to take in all the sights. |
| | Arches National Park Arches National Park has over two thousand natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch.
In some areas, faulting has exposed millions of years of geologic history.
Balancing rocks, fins and pinnacles, are highlighted by a striking environment of contrasting colors, landforms and textures.
The fiery red against the cobalt blue sky, especially at dawn and dusk are a photographers dream
This is elephant rock, an unusual double arch. It does'nt look too elephant like at this angle but from far away it looks like a line of elephants walking with their trunks holding the one infronts tail. |
| Fairy Chimneys, Bryce Canyon |
| | Bryce Canyon Some one said of Bryce " Its a hell of a place to lose a cow". I think they were right. Bryce is famous for its unique geology, consisting of a series of horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters carved from the eastern edge of the Paunsaugunt Plateau in southern Utah. The erosional force of frost and the dissolving power of rainwater has shaped the colorful limestone rock into bizarre shapes including slot canyons, windows, fins, and spires called "hoodoos." I've been here 3 times and I never get tired of the place You can drive around the rim and stop off at various viewing points, hike some easy trails or go on ranger lead programmes, plus of course, learn about the place and get refreshments at the visitor centre. Bryce is at quite a high altutide (6-9000 ft) so it can be colder than you think considering the surrounding area and the top most parts can have snow late into the spring. Its best seen at dusk or dawn See tips for more info... Other US pages: Arizona New Mexico |
