Laid back and Lovely | Sunset over Phu si mountain Luang Prabang |
Encircled by mountains and 700m above sea level at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan river, Luang Prabang has justifyably become Laos's no 1 tourist attraction.
Saying that, its hardly heaving with coach tours and it still retains its small time undiscovered charm.
The city's gleaming temples, crumbling french colonial architecture and multiethnic inhabitants still tends to enthrall even the most jaded traveller.
I thought it was one of the loveliest places I have ever been. |
| Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang |
| | What to see Its a small town so most attractions are within walking distance.
There are over 32 temples, lots of monks and buddhas, lots of great shops and restaurants, a night market where the locals sell their handicrafts.(see tips)
Its also incredibly cheap. A good dinner will set you back $3 and a Beer Lao (my favourite ) is only 70cents a bottle. Fantastic
Luang Prabang shuts up shop early. By 9pm the restaurants are empty and the streets pretty deserted. |

| | Further afield Once you have exhausted Luang Prabang you could take a trip down the Mekong to see the Pak Ou buddha caves (see tip) or take a trip to the Tat Kuang Si waterfall (see tip) Other Laos Pages: Laos Homepage:Vientiane pages: |
