We first discovered Watamu on a day trip in 1998, we were both taken aback by the beauty of this area, the beach is fantastic and uncrowded in fact sometimes you have it all to your own if you walk away from the hotels.
This year will be our third stay in Watamu in 3 years, we stay at the turtle bay beach club which is superb and is in fact our favourite place of all of our holidays so far.
Also the big game fishing here is outstanding only recently "the fantasy slam" was acheived, to those not in the know this is a capture of all 5 billfish in a 24hr period. blue marlin, black marlin, striped marlin, broadbill swordfish and finally sailfish, amazing ! all fish were tagged and released as the skippers in Watamu realise that these magnificent fish need protecting.
For us Watamu has it all and in the turtle bay beach club we have our perfect base for all our Kenya visits.

Without doubt the best hotel we have ever stayed in, the location is superb , situated in a quiet bay known as turtle bay, the bay is a marine reserve so the snorkelling is superb as is the diving.
We have stayed at this hotel for the last three years in a row & are planning our next visit in 2006, kenya has so much to offer, we discover a new part of Kenya every year.
The staff and management at this hotel are second to none, there has been some big improvements this year, the new bar in the reception area is stunning, this hotel has a special place for us now, looking forward to returning again next year.
Turtle bay beach club is also fantastic for children, the "fun base" are here to entertain you during your stay, I must admit they do a fantastic job of keeping the children occupied during the day, in fact do not be suprised if you don't see much of your children during your holiday !
The food is superb and they will cater for anybodys needs, if there is nothing on offer that you like, then a quick word is all that is required, you will be amazed at the service on offer.
Everyone welcomes us back with open arms every year, this year was the best ever, it just keeps getting more rewarding to revisit such a beautiful place with beautiful people.
Looking forward to returning next year, if anyone requires any information please get in touch with me on

The beach at turtle bay is stunning and very quiet unlike some of the beaches around Mombasa, it really makes a difference to be able to walk the beach without being hassled.
Just 5 minutes walk down the beach and you come to Ocean sports & Hemmingways which are famous for big game fishing, I personally prefer fishing out of ocean sports, Peter Darnborough the skipper of alley cat & Martin the skipper of Seyyida can be contacted through ocean sports or more details can be obtained through myself.
The sunday lunch at Ocean sports is not to be missed, food is superb as is the company, we've spent many hours at ocean sports just passing the time away looking out over the bay waiting for the fishing boats to come in, wish we were still there
- Pros:Fantastic location, much less hassle onthe beach than in Mombasa, big game fishing, great people (locals)
- Cons:none to speak of
- In a nutshell:Paradise !

Hi there, thanks for the game fishing info, sounds great. I'm staying in Watamu later this month and keen to do some fishing. Can you give me an idea how much they charge? Many thanks
