At Þingvellir (literally "Parliament Plains"), the general assembly was established around 930 and continued to convene there until 1.798. Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Þingvellir.
Apart from that, here are some places I consider of interest.
Þingvellir was made National park in 1.928. It also belongs to the list of the UNESCO World Heritage since 2.004. |
