Muhafathat Jeddah (Jeddah Province)

by arabian10 - last update: Jul 9, 2009

Rapid Development

Jeddah is almost a pattern for rapid development. The population of Jeddah was 10,000 in the past, increased to 25,000 with the coming of pilgrims. In 1319 H its population became 350,000 and reached 1,000,000 by the year 1400 H. by 1407 H it increased to one and a half million.

Jeddah area extended to over 300 square kilometer that is two hundred times larger than the old walled city of Jeddah. Since 1390 H, the secretariat of Jeddah governorate spent about 15 Billion Saudi Riyals on the city thus turning Jeddah into the Bride of the Red Sea. It is equally interesting to know that 60 years ago Jeddah had only one tree taken as a landmark out side Nasif house where it is still existing. Now, there are over 6 million trees planted in Jeddah streets and districts. There are over a hundred main streets in Jeddah. The city is expanding long ways to the north. There are six stations for testing air equality and ensuring that it is pollution free. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the first Arab country that has found solutions for water and air pollution.
