Malaysia, Truly Asia

by kphstar - last update: Jul 4, 2005

It's weird. I've being to KL numerous times and now I am residing here. Yet trying to come up with things to describe her, I am at a lost. I guess, I am torned between the contrasting nature of KL and it's people.

Living in KL for more than 5 months has being a new experience. Generally, I would be holidaying and spending my saving on my "n"th number of shoes. But living here has somewhat reshaped and reconfirmed some of my opinions about this city.

KL is somewhat a contradiction between the new and old, the modern and traditional, the ultra rich, rich and not so rich. It's generally played out through the have and have not.

Amidst this growing metropolis or steel and glass, you'll still find the rustic "charms" of shanty towns that seems to litter the city - tucking themselves between the shadows of the mall-size manisons.

But also, you can't forget or ignore the religious aspects that are involved. Religion influences greatly the way people play out there lives here.

The Malays are bound to there faith and is restricted in there action but gets all the benefits; the Chinese have free reign to do as they please; and the Indians are mostly ignored. With all this to consider, how can one see this as a equalitarian society? But then again if you have money and title, then you're in another class of your own.

I've being fortunate in the sense that since I've been in KL I've only experience that good life. Good family, friends and acquiantances have sheltered me and my family from the normal daily struggles that the majority goes thought.

So from that perspective, I can say that KL is simply too full of surprises. Whether good or bad, I am growing to love it.

In A Nutshell:"This is virtually my second home. So i can't really slag it."
