I flew to Chaing Mai from Krabi as I didnt want to spend over a day travelling by bus or train. As it was I had to wait over 5 hours in Bangkok airport for my connecting flight but I still saved a lot of time. There was something about Chiang Mai that I liked instantly. I learnt however that staying at the right guesthouse and talking to the right people can really alter how you enjoy your stay, and luckily all my experiences were good. Chiang Mai is a lot cleaner, quiter and laid back than Bangkok, and also there is a law against building tall structures within 100m of a Wat. There being hundreds of Wats means that the city has a very low skyline with no ugly skyscrapers ruining the views. I felt very safe walking around the city and found lots of great places to visit, eat, shop etc. I went on a trek and then went to Pai, Mae Hong Song , Mae Sariang and back to Chiang Mai and really looked forward to coming back. I will definetly re-visit sometime, if not for the Night Bazaar itself.. |

vigi Mon Jun 6, 2005 10:20 UTC Wow! bungy jumping on the 1st day!!! What a memory. Agreed that Chang Mai is so much nicer than BKK, loe your sunset pic. Despite the muscle soreness, 3-hour bamboo raft was fun! Try it out! |
