We did a Wall tour with this company and it involved a 4 hour ride around the course of the Berlin wall with a tour guide. Our guide appeared nervous and stuttered quiet a lot, but it may have been as a result of one of the other customers being a local Berliner who grew up in East Germany and therefore had first hand knowledge of the events. Henri, the Berliner, provided an insight in to what life was like within the walls and really made the bike ride worthwhile. We also visited a watchtower where another East Berliner talks about the loss of his brother who tried to escape. Although the talk was in german it was interesting to see and hear events that local people endured. cost 15 euro for four hour discover the wall tour with a guide. 12.50 euro for students.

We climbed to the top of what i think was the Reichstagg. It is a clear dome that provides a view of surrounding Berlin and also a view down into the workings of Parliament. It is free entry, but be warned it can take over an hour to get inside. Worth the look if you are the curious sort and have some time to kill.

Things To Do: Topography of Terror

Topography of terror is a series of photos of information descsribing the persecution of the Jewish population during the Nazi regime. Although it is located directly behind part of the Berlin Wall it does not touch on this aspect of Berlin's history. It is located opposite the former headquarters of the SS. We spent over an hour viewing the images and listening to the audio. All the writing is in German but the information centre has audio guides for free hire when you leave your passport or drivers license. An absolute must. It is an open air display so not worth doing in extreme weather conditions. free of charge too.

designed by Daniel Libeskind, the architect who won the competition to design the 'new' twin towers in NYC, designed this museum. Its silver jagged form is a representation of the smashed start of David and it is laden with symbolism and philosophical themes. THe guides at the museum will fill you in on these as you enter the museum. It contains extensive material on Jewish history, not just world war II. You will need to allow 2-3 hours to do it fully. it cost 5 euros each and 2.50 for students. open thur-sun 10am-8pm mon 10am - 10pm
