"I could live here" Guanajuato by Vikingvicki

Yes, it's true what the guidebooks say about Guanajuato, it's absolutely lovely !
The big roads are all underground as there is no space for them along the ravnine floor where the town is.

There are loads of little streets to wander around in, great little plazas for people watching or having a bite to eat ( or both ofcourse).

The people are very friendly, I felt a marked change from Oaxaca & Veracruz, but maybe that's because this is a university town & they're used to tourists coming for a day or to learn Spanish, there are quite a few language schools there.

They for some reason have a fascination with frogs, something to do with the town once being full of frogs or something...... so there are frogs on alot of the souvenirs.

Of all the markets I went to see, the market Hidalgo here was my favorite, not too big, not tiny, with a nice relaxed atmosphere & an inner balcony. The restaurant stalls at the side of the market were the funniest - to attract customers the women would wave at you quite frantically, getting up in benches. Don't let them wave in vain - please!
