Zaanse Schans The Zaanse Schans is located on the banks of the river Zaan . Zaanse Schans is now one of the top tourist destinations with it’s windmills, wooden housed and tradesmen workshop .
This typical Zaanse village looked like in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. There are a few windmills and houses and also several museums, restaurants and a visitors' centre
Opening times for the traditional Dutch workshops such as the Wooden Shoe Workshop, the Pewter Foundry, the Cheese Farm and the Shipyard may also vary so check this out at the visitors centre first.
Most of the windmills at Zaanse Schans are only open at the weekend from November to February. Paint mill De Kat and oil mill De Zoeker are open daily from March to October. |
How to get here from Amsterdam: Via the A10 Amsterdam ring direction Zaanstad. Take A8 and then A7 direction Purmerend. Take the exit Zaanse Schans and follow the signs to the Zaanse Schans. Turn right at the roundabout for the car park.
