On the northern tip of the Eastern Harbour, Sultan Qaitbey's Fort is an Alexandrian landmark. The Fort is on the original site of Pharos, Alexandria's ancient light- house, built in 279 BC to a height of 125 metres and topped with a statue of Poseidon.
The Fort contains a mosque and the Naval Museum and provides wonderful views of the city and the Mediterranean.

The collection from the period of 3rd century BC to the 7th century AD. In Alexandria, Graeco-Roman and pharaonic religions mingled in the cult of Serapis; the shift from pagan religions to Christianity can also be seen in the exhibits which include mummies, Hellenistic statues of Roman emperors, Tanagra figurines and early Christian antiquities.

The Kom As-Shouqafa Catacombs were accidentally discovered when a donkey and cart fell through the ground revealing the underground chambers and tombs.
The tombs, on three levels, also contains the Triclinium, where relatives used to sit on stone benches to feast the dead, and a central tomb with reliefs of bearded serpents. Inside are 2nd century AD statues of Sobek and Anubis wearing Roman armour.
No photography inside though.

Pompey's pillar, made of pink granite, is 30m tall and built amidst the ruins of the Serapium in 297 A.D. in honor of Emperor Diocletian originally from the Temple of Serapis. Nearby are subterranean galleries where the sacred Apis bulls were buried, and three sphinxes.

Montazah Palace is the former summer residence of Egypt’s ex-king Fatih, currently the residence of the President Hosni Mubarak.
The Palace was build on a surface of 370 acres and the gardens with palm trees and flower beds contain restaurants, hotels, beaches and parks.
