I stayed here for 2 weeks in a 3 person room on the 6th floor.
My room was nice with a sloping wall and two large windows but only one would open and the sun in the morning would come through the shades and hit my bed in the corner just right to wake me up early.
The room was fairly spacious with 3 lockers mounted on the wall and a low table with a folding chair.
The bathroom was quite nice and the shower had strong pressure and really could get hot once it heated up.
The toilet I had issues with. The "hole" is on the wrong end. While in use, constant flushing is required to alleviate smells. Lets leave it at that.
The breakfast buffet is pretty nice. There is plenty of cold cut meat and cheese for the rolls. You can have coffee or orange juice and get a nice selection of spreads.
The hostel has a large bar area and has happy hour drinks for 1 Euro from 6-9pm. You can also order food from the bar. May I recommend the pizza?
If you feel like being outside and drinking, there is a sun deck above the bar as well.
If you need to do laundry, check the internet, cook your own meal or hang out, go to the Chill Out room. It's the red door two doors away from the hostel entrance. You need a security code to enter and the front desk will give you the code.
There is an elevator as well in the building but it is very slow and heavily used so be prepaired for a wait (most of the time).
The hostel is located about 5 mins. walk from the Westbahnhof station and near a school so there are some kids in the area but they never ran around in front of the hostel.
Schonbrunn Palace is only about 10-15min. walk away as well.
There are many fine, cheap restaurants in the area and some will offer you discounts if you show you are staying at the Wombat hostel.
Also only about 6 mins. walk from the hostel is the main shopping street in Vienna that runs for over 2 miles and is the largest shopping street in Europe (or so I was told) that runs right into the museum district. Lots of nice shops there to see.
Unique Qualities: Good location, affordable, great staff, good bar, elevator, free movie at 6pm daily, vending machines, British telephone booth
