"A lovely little Bavarian village." Schollbrunn by planxty

Take a detour to visit.

OK, let's be honest here, the chances are you have never heard of Schollbrunn. It is a tiny little village of about 900 souls in Bavaria. popular with walkers in summer and completely quiet in winter. I visited in October 2007 to visit a friend who lives there and found a very pretty little village with very few facilities but extremely friendly inhabitants and some nice walking in the area surrounding it.

Schollbrunn lies in the Spessart. Spessart, not as famous as the Schwarzwald (Black Forest), which lies to the North is another forest area, extremely beautiful and well worth a visit. October showed it in all it's autumnal glory and the colours were spectacular. I hope the photos do it some justice.

The village lies off the A3 autobahn and is about one hour's drive from Frankfurt (am Main not am der Oder), not far from Wertheim. I suppose it is a place you may not visit normally but if you are on the A3, take a little time to see a beautiful little spot.

I suppose you are wondering about the title of this page about the Equator. I have stood astride the Equator in the country named for it (Ecuador) and it is nowhere near there, believe me. Let me explain. Apparently Schollbrunn sits on a linguistic equator which is all to do with apples, would you believe? Schollbrunn marks the place where people no longer refer to Apfel but speak of Appel. This is quite relevant as I saw a lot of apple trees in the area.

This photo shows one of the village's two churches as seen through one of the many trees.

Looks like we will miss this place on our way to Melpelbrunn Fergy. We have decided to take a detour and travel south to Miltenberg instead. Please tell me if that is a mistake :o) Cheers, Ann.
