"An accidental find." Chertsey by planxty

A place to stumble on.

I found Chertsey more or less by accident in March 2011 and then discovered that I had found it more or less by accident a couple of years before although had done little more than have a quick drink and get the bus out. Tehre is probably a bit of a moral here insofar as I stumbled upon it and that is what you do with Chertsey.

Historically, it is important as being a place near the river Thames (note the word near) and today, with the changes in the route of that noble river, it is a good mile walk from the riverbank to the town itself. It is, however, a walk well worth making for a pleasant little town awaits. Certainly, the local authority make the most of the local history, principally Runnymede where the Magna Carta was signed. In truth, Runnymede is nothing to do with Chertsey, but you have to make the most of what you have.

I note, as I write this intro, that there is one tip on VT about the place and that refers to the Thorpe Park theme park, which I have visited and much enjoyed but again it is nothing really to do with the place. Visit it for itself, have a wander round, look at the wonderful Church, have a drink in one of the many excellent bars and you will have seen a quintissentially London satellite town. I enjoyed it and I hope you will too.
