So why bother? | Street scene, Hsipaw, Myanmar. |
Hsipaw (also known as Thibaw) seems to be a popular place for travellers, and I thoroughly enjoyed my few days there, but the question remains - why?
There are none of the outstanding temples and ancient monuments to be found elsehwere in Myanmar (although the local scenery is beautiful) and frankly there isn't a whole lot to do. It does, however, retain a quaint laid-back atmosphere that is quite enchanting.
A morning spent wandering the market, then a coffee by the river watching the boatmen, a decent meal and a wander round the local villages just before the sun sets over the Shan hills is really about as good a day as you could have.
Don't ask me to explain it - just go and find out for yourself. |
